History
During very
recent times the animal feed industry has undergone some radical
changes. Thompsons of York have adapted to these changes and
risen to meet the challenges of the new millennium. The story
began in 1926 when William Thompson opened his first grocery
shop in Goodramgate, York. At this time it is unlikely that
he could have envisaged how the business would develop over
the coming years.
The next stage
in the evolution of Thompsons was when David Thompson, the
founder's son opened the first self service grocery shop in
York; other outlets were soon opened in surrounding areas.
He also developed the animal feed side of the business and
came to recognise this as the best way forward for the company.
The present day company has grown out of all recognition from
the early days and is now one of the leading animal feed manufacturers
in the North of England. In 2007 David Thompson retired and
the management team took over the reins.
Like many of
our farming customers, the company remains as it always has
been, customer centred and we pride ourselves on offering
a high level of service. The current Managing Director is
Andrew Richardson.
In 1977 planning
permission was granted to build a brand new mill just outside
York. The following year Jubilee Mill started production.
The company has continued to invest in the mill and with that
has come expansion, and today the mill is equipped to comply
with all the legislation that has been introduced to guarantee
the continued supply of animal feed as part of a safe food
chain.
From Tyneside

we have the ability to deliver your bulk feed requirements
